Do have a read of our Frequently Asked Questions about our Behavioural Consults.
We welcome you to our private venue and talk through all your dog’s issues, such as your dog’s history and all aspects of their life. We then observe and assess your dog’s behaviour (all done safely and without stress), and then we devise a plan, and I start to teach you how to help your dog. Your report follows a week later and covers everything we’ve discussed and, importantly, a plan to help you go forward.
Yes, you do need a referral; it’s important that we rule out medical causes for your dog’s behaviour and we work in close contact with your vet. Please ask your vet to complete the form here, or we can contact your vet if you prefer.
Yes. You can reclaim our fees if you are covered for behavioural issues; Pet Plan, Many Pets and many other insurance companies cover this. Please check your Dog Insurance policy or contact us for more information.
No. All dogs need a Behavioural Consultation as we have to discover why they are reacting and teach you (and them!) how you overcome these issues. Classes are great for practising but need to be used alongside the skills taught in the Behavioural Consultation and report.
We wish we could, but there is no magic wand, and most anxiety and reactivity issues take time to overcome. We work with you and provide you with the tools to overcome or manage your dog’s difficulties; it’s a process.
Some issues do improve very quickly, but some take more time; the Behavioural Consultation is the start of this process.
We will fully help and support you, and you will have a team behind you after the Behavioural Consultation. You can come back for One-to-Ones, Classes, and we offer support by phone and email. You will also be given access to our private support group.
We’ve all been there and know how it feels to have a reactive dog and how stressful it is. We aim to rebuild your lost confidence in a friendly and supportive environment.
No, absolutely not. We only use kind and reward-based methods. There’s an article about why we don’t use aversives here.
Dogs are never too old to learn, and we aim to make life less stressful for you and your dog. If a dog has been using a particular behaviour for a long time, then it may take time to change.
We believe what you tell us about your dog and know you aren’t making it up! Many dogs are relaxed at our venue, and we set them up to succeed and aim for your dog not to get too stressed. We don’t need to see them reacting to know how we can best help you. If you have specific issues at home that you’d like us to see (if you can safely do so), you can send a video for us to look at.
A clinical behaviourist helps dogs with emotional issues or struggling with behaviours that could be harmful (to the dog or other dogs/people). We look at emotional and mental causes for the behaviour and work with your vet to rule out physical causes. We are experienced and qualified to a high level to help with behavioural issues.
Fill out the Owner Questionaire or use our Contact Form so we can send you the questionnaire, and we can then discuss what help your dog needs. We then arrange a deposit, and then you are booked in.
We generally have a wait time of around a month for new client consults, but sometimes it may be a bit longer. If your issues are urgent, we may be able to see you sooner, or we can offer ‘first aid’ advice to help you until we see you. After the Behavioural Consultation, you can book up for One-to-Ones/Classes (as appropriate) without a wait.
